Moving to a new place is very exciting but at the same time very stressful. There is a long to-do list days before the move since you have to pack all your stuff. You will need essential items to help ease the movement, such as cleaning supplies, pillows, boxes, tape, gloves, and many more.
If you hire a moving company, they usually insist that you prepare the major appliances such as a fridge, stove, washer, dishwasher, and dryer. It may seem like an easy job, but if not well executed, some appliances might not work once you arrive in your new home. You should know which appliances to bring and how to prepare them yourself. Continue reading this article to find out more about the appliances you should bring when you move.
Contact the Dealer Or Manufacturer
Before doing anything, contact your dealer for all the major appliances you have in your house. Let them explain any special instructions you may need to use. You can also use the manufactures manual if you still have it.
Refrigerator
Twenty-four hours before the big move, make sure that you unplug the fridge. Clean out everything in the refrigerator and dispose of all the perishable foods. After the freezer unit has defrosted, clean it thoroughly, and ensure that it is dry. You should also remove all containers to prevent the formation of any odor or mildew.
Remember to secure the racks or remove them so that they do not move during transportation. If your fridge has an ice maker, make sure to disconnect the water line and drain it off completely. After this, you are ready to move your fridge and have it installed after moving.
Stove
After all the years, months, or weeks the stove has served you, it must be cleaned thoroughly. Make sure to remove the racks and clean the inside and the outside vigilantly. Handle the gas lines with care since they can be delicate and can damage if not handled well. However, if you are not confident enough to clean and prep the stove, call your Gas Company to guide you on how to do it. It is much better to call firsthand before moving this appliance to find out if you need extra professional help. After cleaning, tape down the parts to ensure everything is secure.
Dishwasher
The dishwasher needs to be emptied. Remove all the racks and pack them separately. If need be, you can clean the appliance then let it dry before you tape the door shut.
Dryer and Washer
Dryers and washers need careful handling. The first thing to do is to consult the manufacture’s manual or call the appliance company. If you feel content on moving it yourself, remove the hoses and put them in the driver cavity or the washer or pack them separately in a box for safekeeping.
Do not let any appliance cords dangle. Tape them to the back. You can also pack light, unbreakable items such as pillows, chair cushions, stuffed animals, or cloths in major appliances. Please put them in plastic bags to ensure cleanliness. The last thing is to make sure that all screws, doors, and nuts are secure and taped before moving into your new home.
